Mrs. Wilma Doris Powers

    Wilma Doris Powers, 76, Commissioned Special Worker and spouse of     deceased minister Rev. Raymond B. Powers, Jr., passed away on Tuesday, August 24, 2010 following a brief battle with cancer.  Doris was born on February 14, 1934 in Richmond, KY.  She was a graduate of Marion College (now Indiana Wesleyan University), and a teacher in the Roanoke City Schools from 1971 to 1989.  At the time of her death she was serving as secretary of Penn Forest Wesleyan Church of Roanoke.  As a Pastor’s wife she served in the local church in many capacities, including church pianist, Bible Prophecy teacher, and a mentor to many.  Surviving are her sons, Randall Powers and wife, Rhonda, of Raleigh, NC, and Loren Powers and wife, Sue, of Switzerland; grandchildren, Jake, Ben, Ruben, Niel, and Julie; sisters, Janice Carmack and Edna June Amburgey; and brother, Bob Murphy. 

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, August 26, 10:00 am at  Emmanuel Wesleyan Church in Roanoke.  Interment will follow in Fair View Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm and from 6 to 8 pm on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA
